At the sound of a bang, employees looked out of a downtown Syracuse office window and saw a Jeep tilting onto its side.
A woman crashed her SUV around 7:15 a.m. Thursday on East Fayette Street near Bank Alley. The Jeep flipped onto its driver's side, briefly trapping the woman inside her vehicle.
Passing pedestrians and nearby workers called 911 and ran to the woman's SUV. With help, the woman climbed out of the passenger side of her Jeep and onto the sidewalk.
Holding her cellphone with a bloodied hand, the shaken woman tried to push her tilted SUV back onto its wheels. A few men joined her -- giving the damaged vehicle a few shoves before walking away. The Syracuse Fire Department and the Syracuse Police Department arrived minutes later, shutting down East Fayette Street between South Warren and South Salina streets.
Firefighters evaluated the woman and pulled her purse from a pile of shattered glass. American Medical Response paramedics bandaged the woman's hand before leaving.
A dislodged headlight rested on the sidewalk next to the woman's SUV. The green paint on the bottom of a nearby streetlight was chipped.
As the woman watched, a tow truck flipped the Jeep back onto its wheels. Shortly after, East Fayette Street reopened.
