Eugene man killed in early morning motorcycle crash in Lane County

Oregon State Police are investigating a traffic crash that killed a 22-year old motorcyclist from Eugene early Saturday morning in rural Lane County.The crash happened around 6:45 a.m. on US Forest Service Road 18 east of Fall Creek Reservoir, when the rider failed to safely negotiate his Yamaha motorcycle through a right curve, said Lieutenant Gregg Hastings, an OPS spokesman.The motorcycle crossed the roadway and the helmeted rider, who has not been identified, fell over a 30-foot embankment into a creek.
It was the second fatal traffic crash in Lane County during the Memorial Day weekend. A pedestrian died early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Springfield.
Last year, three people died in three separate fatal traffic crashes in Oregon during the holiday weekend.
