Hickory, N.C : Kernersville woman dies in traffic crash near Walkertown on Saturday, March 18, 2017
A local hairstylist died Saturday when her car was struck by another vehicle in the intersection of U.S. 158 and Vance Road near Walkertown, authorities said.
Judy Brooke Heiney, 68, of Kernersville, died at the scene, the N.C. Highway Patrol said. Heiney was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
She has worked as a hairstylist at Winston-Salem's JCPenney department store in Hanes Mall since 2006, according of her Facebook page.
The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. Heiney was a driving a 2008 Chevrolet car and was attempting to make left turn from Vance Road to U.S. 158, the highway patrol said. Heiney's vehicle turned into the path of a 2014 Chevrolet car driven by Morgan Brianne Coleman, 21, of Belews Creek.
Coleman's vehicle struck Heiney's vehicle on its left front door, the highway patrol said. At the time of the collision, Coleman was driving 45 mph, and Heiney's vehicle was going 15 mph, investigators said.
Coleman had her two children in her car, but none of the three were injured, the highway patrol said.
Neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash, the highway patrol said. No charges were filed.
Heiney's vehicle had $6,000 in damage, and Coleman's had $14,500 in damage, the highway patrol said.
