Desoto County, FL : Five people injured in a two-car collision on U.S. 17 in Arcadia on Monday night, May 11, 2015

Five people were injured in a two-car collision Monday night in Arcadia according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Charles Derringer, 51, of Arcadia was driving 2002 Ford van westbound on SW Senate Street attempting to cross U.S. 17 at 7:25 p.m. A 2014 Volvo semi driven by Dale Walton, 69, of Port Charlotte was southbound on U.S. 17 in the left lane approaching the intersection with Southwest Senate Street. As Derringer's car entered the intersection, the front of Walton's car collided with the right rear of Derringer's car, according to the FHP accident report.

Walton was not hurt but four passengers in his vehicle were injured. Marcilino Hernandez, 19, of Arcadia was airlifted to Lee Memorial with serious injuries. Jose Hernandez, 26, of Arcadia was treated at DeSoto Memorial. Isdero Franko, 26, and Lucino Campos, 28, both of Arcadia, sustained minor injuries.

Derringer suffered minor injuries and was charged with failure to the yield right of way, the FHP says.
