A 66-year-old St. Martinville man died early Sunday morning after his Ford Mustang ran off the road and struck a telephone pole, according to the State Police.
Clyde Gedward’s car ran off the right side of the road in a bend on La. 347 near Sonny Drive in St. Martin Parish just after midnight, said Master Trooper Brooks David, a State Police spokesman.
David said Gedward was not wearing a seat belt and was critically injured. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation, David said, and troopers aren’t yet sure if impairment or other factors may have played a role in the wreck.
