Syracuse, NY : Car catches fire after crash on Interstate 81 north in Syracuse on Sunday, 22nd March 2021

A fiery accident briefly shut down Interstate 81 north on Sunday morning in Syracuse.

A car crashed shortly after 10 a.m. on I-81 north near the Interstate 481 split, Onondaga County 911 dispatch logs show. The car caught on fire and soon became engulfed by flames.

The Syracuse Police Department, American Medical Response and the Syracuse Fire Department rushed to the scene.

The highway was completely closed for about 20 minutes while firefighters put out the blaze.
