Aspinwall, PA : Woman killed in a two-vehicle crash on Route 119 in Youngwood on May, Tuesday 2nd 2017
Authorities have released the identity of a woman killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash on Route 119 in Youngwood.
Megan R. Froehlich, 22, of Shaler died of blunt force trauma after she ran a red light and her northbound Nissan Altima struck the bumper of a box truck, Westmoreland County Coroner Kenneth A. Bacha said.
Bacha said the truck, which had a green light, was attempting to turn left from Route 119 onto Trolley Line Avenue when the crash occurred at 2 p.m. Froehlich was not wearing a seat belt, Bacha said. She was taken by ambulance to Excela Westmoreland Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The front of the Altima was crumpled by the impact, and first responders had to cut Froehlich out of the car, according to Youngwood fire Chief Lloyd Crago.
Bacha said cellphone use was not a factor in the wreck, and results of toxicology tests won't be available for several weeks.
The truck driver was not injured.
State police are investigating the wreck.
There have been several accidents in Youngwood this year, including a fatal wreck in March when a woman crashed into a truck and careened into a house.
Most crashes in the borough occur on Route 119, a busy thoroughfare that runs from the north end of Youngwood to the south.
“Straight through town, that's where everybody wrecks,” Crago said.
Bock Funeral Home in Shaler is handling Froehlich's funeral arrangements.
