Catoosa, OK : Owasso motorcyclist killed in collision with semi on U.S. 412 near Catoosa on Tuesday morning, May 3, 2016
A 34-year-old Owasso motorcyclist was killed when a tractor-trailer rig pulled in front of him on U.S. 412 just east of Catoosa on Tuesday morning, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Daniel Childress was traveling eastbound when his motorcycle slammed into the fuel tank of a semi that was entering the highway from 305th East Avenue about 6:40 a.m., Trooper Dwight Durant said.
Childress, who was wearing a helmet, died on impact. The truck driver was not injured.
A witness told troopers it appeared the truck driver did not see the motorcycle because of heavy fog in the area.
The witness “could see that the motorcycle was on its front wheel trying to get stopped,” Durant said.
Troopers were investigating whether excessive speed was a factor.
U.S. 412 was reduced to one lane in each direction for several hours while authorities investigated the crash. Westbound traffic was backed up for miles.
