Osceola County, FL : One person dead, four injured in multivehicle crash in Osceola County on Wednesday morning, March 11, 2015
One person was killed and four others were injured in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Osceola County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 10 a.m. near the intersection of Reaves Road and Poinciana Boulevard.
Derek Esquerdo, 24, of Kissimmee, was traveling southbound on Reaves Road, a report stated. Three other vehicles were traveling northbound on Reaves Road.
For an unknown reason, Esquerdo traveled into the northbound lanes, and the left side of his car struck the left side of a second vehicle being driven by Susan Bennett, 73, of Poinciana. Bennett wasn't injured in the crash.
Esquerdo's two-door Hyundai then struck a third vehicle in a head-on collision. The driver of the third vehicle, Waldemar DeJesus, 37, of Puerto Rico, suffered serious injuries.
A passenger in the car, Catalina Visalden-Brunelle, 68, of Kissimmee, was killed in the crash. Fifty-six-year-old Richard Brunelle, of Kissimmee, suffered serious injuries, while a third passenger, 65-year-old Matilde Batchelder, of Massachusetts, suffered minor injuries.
The front of a fourth car being driven by Theresa Mitchell, 50, of Poinciana, then crashed into the back of DeJesus' car.
Esquerdo suffered serious injuries.
Nobody was injured in Mitchell's four-door Chevrolet.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
