Bear, DW : 23-year-old Newark man identified in fatal crash in Bear on Thursday, 2nd April, 2020
Delaware State Police identified 23-year-old Newark man Ethan Yancey as the victim of a fatal crash in Bear on Thursday.
State police said Yancey was on a 2018 Yamaha motorcycle going east on Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40), approaching a green light at the Buckley Blvd. intersection around 2:15 p.m.That's when a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 49-year-old Bear man, was going west on U.S. 40 when he entered the left turn lane for Buckley Blvd. on a red light. The Jeep then proceeded into the intersection, directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle collided with the right front side of the Jeep, ejecting Yance. The driver of the Jeep came to a stop and remained at the scene, according to police.
Yance was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he later died. The driver, along with a passenger of the Jeep, were properly restrained and were not injured, police said.
Police said the eastbound lanes of U.S. 40 were closed for about three hours.
