Logan, UT : Woman seriously injured in crash on U.S. 91 in Logan Canyon on Tuesday night, July 19, 2016
The Utah Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old Utah State University student was seriously injured Tuesday night when her car slammed into a stand of trees on U.S. 91 in Logan Canyon.
According to Sgt. Jason Kendrick, it appears Kira Anderson was traveling northbound in a 1996 Subaru Legacy at about 7 p.m. when she went off the right side of the road. She over-corrected, causing the car to spin around and hit the trees on the driver’s side of the car.
The crash scene was discovered by someone passing through the canyon. Anderson, who was unconscious and not breathing, was pulled from the car and given CPR. She was breathing when medical personnel arrived but remained unconscious, Kendrick said.
There was no sign of alcohol or excessive speed, Kendrick said, so troopers are looking into other possibilities, including fatigue or distracted driving.
AirMed sent a medical helicopter to the parking lot at the Sinks, and she was flown to Salt Lake City, but her condition was undisclosed at press time.
Anderson, a sociology and philosophy student, is from North Carolina and presently living in Layton, Kendrick said.
