Meridian, MS : Lauderdale County girl dies following Clarke County farming accident Thursday afternoon, March 16, 2017

A 6-year-old Lauderdale County girl died Thursday afternoon, a day after she was struck by a truck in the Stonewall-Enterprise community.

While on spring break with her family, Alexandra "Allie" Carruth wandered in front of truck around 4 p.m. on her grandfather's farm, the Milbrook Plantation, Clarke County Sheriff Todd Kemp said.

A farm worker, not seeing the child, entered the truck from the rear and started it. The truck hit the child and the child was taken Wednesday to Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, Kemp said.

On Thursday morning, Kemp said the child was on life support.

"It's just a very tragic situation," Kemp said Thursday morning. "Our prayers and thoughts are out with the family."

Alexandra lived and attended school in Lauderdale County, Kemp said.

Lamar School posted on Facebook that Alexandra attended first grade at the school.

"Please keep the Carruth family in your prayers," the Facebook post said.
