Concord, NC : Cabarrus County woman killed in struck by a vehicle on Wednesday October 14 2015
A Cabarrus County woman has been struck and killed by a vehicle while she was gardening in her front yard.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol tells local media that Evelyn Tarlton, 74, was planting flowers with her husband Wednesday afternoon in Concord when an SUV ran off the road and struck her. She died at the scene.
Authorities say Tarlton saved her husband's life by yelling at him to get out of the way, but was unable to escape herself.
From what he initially said, she saw the car coming and he was able to get out of the way and he thought she was coming behind him, but apparently she may have gone in another direction when she was struck, but she initially saw the vehicle and told him to get out of the way," said Trooper A.L. Green.
The driver, Shane Stanley, 26, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities have not said whether Stanley will be charged.
We don't think speed had anything to do with it, so we don't know if he had some kind of medical condition or not, right now we don't," Green said.
