NASHVILLE, TN : Bizarre accident kills man at South 8th St. near Kirkpatrick Park on Tuesday, 22nd January 2019

A man was apparently run over by his own truck at a construction site in East Nashville.

It happened Tuesday morning at South 8th St. near Kirkpatrick Park.

Police say 60-year-old Jace Spears of Columbia was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries but did not survive.

Investigators said Spears got into a 2015 Ford pick-up truck in order to move it from blocking the entrance to the construction zone. He had one foot inside the truck and one outside the open driver's side door when he lost his balance and fell to the ground. The truck rolled over him.

A nearby co-worker heard Spears call for help and put the truck in park. Spears was taken to Vanderbilt University Center where he died, according to a release.

The 60-year-old was an employee of Civil Contractors in Franklin. The pick-up was registered to the company.
