McHENRY, IL : Two killed in motorcycle crash near McHenry on April, Sunday 9th 2017
A Carpentersville man and woman on a motorcycle were killed Sunday evening after a collision with a minivan near McHenry.
Emergency responders were called at 7:53 p.m. Sunday to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of River and Charles J. Miller roads in McHenry Township, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
A 49-year-old Carpentersville man and a 42-year-old Carpentersville woman were on a 2017 Harley-Davidson heading south on River Road. The 49-year-old man was driving. He had a green light at the time of the crash, according to the results of a preliminary investigation. A 2014 Chrysler Town & Country van, driven by a 41-year-old woman from Wonder Lake, was driving north on River Road and turning west onto Charles J. Miller Road. The driver of the van failed to yield for the motorcycle. The vehicles crashed in the intersection, according to the news release.
The motorcycle driver was taken to Centegra Hospital – McHenry, where he was pronounced dead. The Carpentersville woman was taken to Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead. There was no indication that the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, according to the news release. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said it was withholding the names of the Carpentersville man and woman pending notification of their families.
The driver of the van was wearing a seat belt and airbags were deployed. The name of the woman driving the van wasn’t released.
Police detoured traffic for about five hours while they were investigating the crash, McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy Sandra Rogers said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office and the Lake County Coroner’s Office continue to the investigate the crash.
