Phoenix, AZ : Wheelchair-bound man hit by car and killed while crossing street on Monday night July 7th 2014

A wheelchair-bound man was killed after being hit by a car near 32nd Street and Thomas.

Police say the driver stayed at the scene after hitting the man on Monday night.

He was crossing at an intersection, but it didn't have a marked crosswalk.

Officers say when that's the case, there is an implied crosswalk and it is legal for a person to cross when it's safe.

"There's no markings, but when you have a pedestrian I think the emphasis is late night hours you really have to be careful crossing the street," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Mark Schweikert.

Police say the woman driving the car did not show signs of impairment and she didn't appear to be speeding.

No charges have been filed.
The man's name hasn't been released.
