Portland,OR : 7-year-old Venetta boy dies in Hwy 58 crash on December, Saturday 30th 2017

A 7-year-old boy from Venetta died in a car crash along Highway 58 in Lane County Saturday afternoon.

The boy was in a Honda CRV that was hit by an oncoming Dodge pickup around 3:40 p.m., the Oregon State Police said. The pickup’s driver, Douglas Nelson, lost control and crossed into the path of the Honda.

Neither Nelson, 30, nor his 35-year-old passenger Erica Nelson was hurt in the crash.

Ashley Russell and Zachary Heineman were in the Honda CRV with their 2 children, the 7-year-old and their 15-month-old daughter. The boy died at the scene. The other 3 were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries and are expected to recover.

The investigation continues, but officials said impairment does not seem to be a factor in this crash.
