A 17-year-old boy died after the bicycle he was riding collided with a tow truck in West Brighton on Tuesday, according to police.
The boy suffered severe trauma in the crash, which was reported at 12:03 p.m. at the intersection of Clove Road and Castleton Avenue, an NYPD spokesman said.
When officers responded to the scene after a 911 call, they found the boy lying in the roadway.
EMS rushed the boy in critical condition to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton, where he was pronounced dead, the spokesman said.
The preliminary investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad indicates that the collision occurred when a 38-year-old man was driving a tow truck southbound on Clove Road and the boy was riding a GT mountain bike westbound on Castleton Avenue, the police spokesman said.
The tow truck operator, who works for L&S Towing, remained at the scene, the police spokesman said.
