An Elyria woman died Saturday afternoon from injuries she sustained while riding a motorcycle that overturned after a tire blowout.
Deanna M. Schill, 36, was taken by North Ridgeville Fire Department ambulance paramedics to University Hospitals St. John Medical Center in Westlake where she died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to a statement released by
the Elyria post of the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The driver of the motorcycle, Rusty A. Schill, 40, also of Elyria, was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition.
The fatal crash occurred on state Route 10 near state Route 83 at 2:04 p.m. as a 1996 purple Harley Davidson FLHPI motorcycle with both people was eastbound on Route 10 near an exit to Route 83 when the bike experienced a rear flat tire that
caused the motorcycle to overturn, throwing both riders off, reports said.
Neither rider was wearing a helmet, according to the patrol.
No other vehicle was involved, and the crash did not require the road to be closed to traffic, according to the post.
The relationship of the riders to each other was not cited by the patrol post.
Initial reports said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash.
