Longmont,CO : Driver dies in two-vehicle crash in Longmont on April, wednesday 26th 2017
One person died in a two-vehicle crash in south Longmont on Wednesday afternoon, and the ensuing investigation left South Main Street closed for several hours.
Cmdr. Joel Post said in an email on Wednesday afternoon that each of the two sport utility vehicles had only the driver and no passengers.
The identity of the driver that died has not been released.
"The cause of this accident is under investigation and no information will be available regarding charges tonight," he said in an email. "There is no information at this time indicating whether or not either driver was impaired."
Sgt. Eric Lewis said the second driver was taken to the hospital for treatment but didn't have any additional information.
Post said in an email about an hour after the crash that no further information would be released on Wednesday but an update to the press would possibly come on Thursday.
The crash was reported about 4:15 p.m. and police diverted northbound and southbound traffic until shortly before 9 p.m. as they investigated the crash.
Wednesday's crash marks the fifth traffic fatality in Boulder County in April. Grayson Wolf, 19, died on April 16 when he lost control of his motorcycle on Colo. 66 near Lyons.
Sean Slote, 50, of Longmont, and Robert Lundy, 73, of Louisville, both died at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 287 near Jasper Road south of Longmont on April 7.
Janet Robinson, 85, of Longmont, died on April 7 from injuries she received following a two-vehicle crash near Pace Street and Third Avenue in Longmont on April 6.
