Medford, OR : Grants Pass woman dies in car crash on Interstate 5 outside Central Point on Friday night, April 1, 2016
A Grants Pass woman died Saturday following a Friday night car crash on Interstate 5 outside Central Point.
Oregon State Police reported 38-year-old Wendy Richardson died of her injuries following the two-vehicle crash. The incident occurred on I-5 near milepost 37 at 10:18 p.m. Friday. The investigation so far shows a 2015 Nissan van was driving north on the highway when it drifted out of its lane and slammed into the back of a 1998 International cargo truck.
Richardson was a passenger of the van. The driver, 46-year-old Grants Pass resident Cornelius Crean, was not injured. The International's driver, 42-year-old Robert Martinez and his passenger, 24-year-old Steven Dillard, received minor injuries. Both men are from Fresno, Calif. Richardson was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center with severe injuries.
The northbound slow lane on I-5 near the crash was closed for about two hours while responders from Jackson County Fire District No. 3, OSP, the Jackson County District Attorney's Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation worked the scene.
Police are looking into "distracted driving" as a factor in the crash, according to an OSP news release.
