Richmond, CA : Divers to search for Cessna's fuselage in San Pablo Bay after crash on April 27th 2014
Search crews hope to recover a crucial piece of evidence in the midair collision of two small planes over San Pablo Bay. One of the planes crashed into the water.
Officials on Tuesday announced that searchers on San Pablo Bay believe they've pinpointed the location of the plane's fuselage.
The search will begin on Wednesday.
"The problem we have is it's a large debris field," said Contra Costa County Sheriff's spokesperson Jimmy Lee. "We've already located parts of the plane including the wing, wheel, and other smaller parts."
New images of the search were released Tuesday.
Investigators say the Cessna 210 was flying alongside a vintage Hawker Sea Fury TMK 20 on Sunday and that they may have crashed when one tried to pass the other.
The FAA assumes the pilot of the Cessna died.
The other pilot and his passenger landed safely at an airport in Amador County.
