CUMBERLAND, MD : LaVale man injured in Interstate 68 crash near Clarysville bridge on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016

A 23-year-old LaVale man was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after he was injured in a single-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 68 near the Clarysville Bridge, according to Maryland State Police.

Ty Xavier Jones suffered unknown injuries in the 8:18 p.m. crash that occurred near the 38 mile marker. He was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center by Frostburg Area Ambulance.

Police said Jones was operating a 2012 Nissan Sentra when he lost control of the vehicle, struck a guardrail and traveled off the roadway approximately 30 yards into a wooded area.

Police said preliminary investigation determined alcohol factored in the crash.

Charges are pending laboratory results in the ongoing investigation, police said.

Frostburg and Shaft volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.
