Butler, PA : One flown from scene of 422 accident on Thursday, October, 26th 2017

An Alabama man was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with a broken leg and other injuries after the pickup truck he was driving struck a tractor-trailer this morning on Route 422 near the Big Butler Fairgrounds in Franklin Township.

The crash happened about 7 a.m. when the driver of the rig, which was hauling an empty bulk tank, pulled out of the Fairground Market parking lot, state police said.

John M. Jones, 27, of Laverne was unable to stop his eastbound Dodge Ram truck in time and slammed into the front of the tractor-trailer. He was briefly trapped in the truck.

Prospect volunteer firefighters had to use a rescue tool to force open the driver's door and get Jones out.

Police said he works for an unknown pipeline company.

He suffered a compound fracture of the right leg and other injuries.

A LifeFlight medical helicopter landed on the highway and flew him to Allegheny General Hospital.

The other driver, Thomas Jackson Jr., 42, of Pittsburgh, was not injured.

Police said it was not immediately known if charges would be filed in the crash, which closed a portion of Route 422 for about an hour.
