Driver Charged in Single-Car Crash That Killed

Students at Washington and Lee University are mourning the loss of a student who died in an early morning crash Tuesday.
School officials say 10 students were involved in a single car crash around 1:30 a.m.The driver of the SUV, Nicholas Hansel, 21, of New Orleans, is now charged with DUI and Refusal.
The accident happened on Turkey Hill Road near Bethany Road in Rockbridge County.According to State Police, the SUV ran off the side of the road and hit a tree stump before overturning.The University says Kelsey Durkin, 21, of New Canaan, Connecticut was killed.Nine others in the car were hurt. Two were airlifted to UVA Medical Center and another went to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.Six students were treated and released, including Hansel who had minor injuries, currently being held in the Rockbridge County Jail.According to Kelsey Durkin's Facebook page, she was set to graduate from Washington and Lee in the spring.The school has counselors on hand for anyone who needs them.There will also be a candlelight vigil Tuesday night at 6:30 in front of Lee Chapel to remember Durkin.Everyone is invited to attend.
