Forks, WA : London cyclist injured when he was struck by an SUV while biking south of Forks on the Olympic Peninsula on Sunday morning, March 13, 2016
A London Bicyclist planning to travel from Vancouver, B.C. to Panama was stopped short just days into his 85-day trip after a car struck him 12 miles South of Forks, Washington Sunday morning.
The rider had posted on a blog dedicated to the trip that he planned to bike the 5,500 miles beginning in Vancouver on the 10th of March. The Washington State Patrol said that 3 days later the 25-year-old from London, England was southbound on the fog line of U.S. Route 101, when he was struck by a southbound Dodge Durango.
The bicyclist was taken to Clallam County Hospital in Forks, later transported to Harborview Medical Center where he posted a banged-up selfie on Instagram with the quote “When cycling goes wrong. Hit by a car at 50mph. Bike smashed up and scapula broken in 4 places. Fun.”
The driver of the Dodge, a 72-year-old La Push, Washington man, was not injured. Trooper Nelson said that no drugs or alcohol were involved, a cause of the accident is under investigation.
