Jefferson Township, OH : 44-year-old Jeanene Ward and 41-year-old Dana Duncan-Toops killed in fatal crash in Montgomery County on Wednesday morning, June 29, 2016
Two people are dead and another is injured following a two-car crash in Jefferson Township on Wednesday morning.
Wednesday afternoon, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the two victims. 44-year-old Jeanene Ward and 41-year-old Dana Duncan-Toops were both killed in the accident. The two women were both from New Lebanon.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 9700 block of West Third Street.
The Jefferson Township Battalion Fire Chief Chad McInturff said a woman driving a silver car went left of center striking a black car. The driver of the silver car was pronounced dead at the scene.
McInturff said a female passenger in the silver car was taken by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital where she later died. Officials said she was not wearing a seat belt.
A woman driving the black car was transported to the hospital by medics.
Investigators have not determined a cause of the crash at this point. McInturff said all factors, including speed, are being considered.
“An accident of this severity is rare in this area with this being a heavily traveled road. With the sun directly in line with the roadway we do get accidents from time to time but generally not his severe,” said McInturff.
West Third Street was shut down in both directions from Diamond Mill Road to Snyder Road while crews worked to clear the scene.
