An early Saturday morning crash on Interstate 85 killed the driver of an SUV.
According to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler, a male driver was the lone occupant of a Toyota SUV.
Troopers said the SUV was the only vehicle involved in the crash, which happened on the northbound side of the interstate around 4 a.m.
Fowler said the vehicle went off the right side of the road, entered a wooded area, overturned and caught on fire.
The victim was partially ejected, trapped under the vehicle and died at the scene, Fowler said.
Saturday night, Fowler identified the driver as Samuel Johnson, 31, of Bladenboro, North Carolina.
This crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Cherokee County Coroner's Office.
