DPS: Amarillo teen dead, 2 hospitalized in Garza County crash on Sunday, 8th July 2018
An Amarillo teenager is dead and two other people from Amarillo suffered serious injuries after a crash early Sunday morning in Garza County.
At approximately 2 a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the crash on U.S. 84 about 17 miles east of Post near Justiceburg, said DPS Sgt. John Gonzalez.
A Dodge passenger car was traveling west on U.S. 84 approaching a curve when the vehicle traveled straight through the curve into the center median. Gonzalez said the vehicle traveled into the median and struck a guardrail and concrete pedestal, causing the vehicle to roll.
One passenger was ejected and two others were pulled from the vehicle before the vehicle caught on fire.
The driver, 40-year-old Christy Hubbard Tofflemire of Amarillo, was taken to University Medical Center with serious, incapacitating injuries, said Gonzalez.
One passenger, 17-year-old Kanyon Robert Bural of Amarillo, was also taken to UMC with serious, incapacitating injuries.
The other passenger, 17-year-old Shelby Le’An Sperry of Amarillo, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Gonzalez.
The crash remained under investigation Monday.
