Honolulu, HI : Tow truck driver identified in fatal H-2 crash on Thursday, 9th January, 2020
A tow truck driver died after he and another man were struck early this morning on the shoulder of the H-2 freeway by a suspected drunk driver.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Aaron Malama, 43, of Honolulu.
About 1 a.m., according to police accounts, a 45-year-old woman was driving northbound on the H-2 when she veered out of her lane and collided with a stalled vehicle before the Mililani Tech Park off-ramp while it was being hooked up to a tow truck.
She then struck Malama and the other man, 49, who were standing next to the tow truck, police said. The woman stopped shortly afterwards.
Emergency Medical Services transported Malama to an area hospital in critical condition and the older man to an area hospital in serious condition.
Malama died of his injuries at the hospital, police said.
