A 51-year-old man died after a crash Monday morning in Huntley, police and fire officials said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District and Huntley police responded about
6:10 a.m. to Algonquin and Haligus roads for a two-vehicle crash, according to a news release.
David Stone of Huntley was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second driver – a 74-year-old Lake in the Hills man – was taken to Centegra Hospital – Huntley with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
It appeared to be a rear-end crash, Deputy Fire Chief Al Schlick said. Huntley police said Stone was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer, and the 74-year-old Lake in the Hills man was driving a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan.
Details surrounding the crash and its cause were not available Monday.
The situation remains under investigation with help from the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
No charges have been filed, police said.
It was unclear whether Monday morning’s rainfall contributed to the crash.
A final cause of death is pending after an autopsy was performed Monday afternoon, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said in an email.
Authorities did not release the name or condition of the driver of the Dodge Caravan.
The crash closed the intersection in front of Centegra Hospital – Huntley for about four hours, police said.
Traffic was rerouted with the help of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, the Huntley Community Emergency Response Team and the Huntley Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.
The Huntley Public Works Department and police from West Dundee, Crystal Lake, Lake in the Hills, Algonquin, Elgin and Hampshire also assisted.
The road was reopened at 10:04 a.m.
