WESTPORT, CT : Car with two occupants in serious crash on Merritt on Wednesday, December 21st 2016
Two persons were in a car that veered off the northbound lanes of the Merritt Parkway Wednesday night and ended up on its roof in the woods near Twin Oaks Lane, according to fire department and state police broadcasts.
The Norwalk Fire Dept. commander on scene reported one person was trapped in the vehicle and another on the ground when firefighters arrived.
Both victims were transported by ambulance to Norwalk Hospital.
The accident occurred about one-quarter mile before Exit 41 in Westport.
Norwalk firefighters arrived at the scene via the parkway while Westport fire units came in through Twin Oaks Lane, a single-lane private road that ends at the parkway.
The accident occurred at around 10:15 p.m.
The northbound lanes were completely blocked by emergency vehicles for about an hour. At around 11:10 p.m., a state trooper broadcast that he was opening the left lane to traffic.
According to police scanner broadcasts, ConnDOT is bringing in barriers to block the right lane northbound at the accident scene so troopers can conduct their investigation, leaving the right lane closed for an extended period of time.
