A traffic accident in Walker County has taken the life of a 13-year-old girl.
Walker County Coroner Joey Vick says Blakely Foster's 16-year-old sister and a brother were taken to UAB hospital after the wreck on Buttermilk Road. The car rolled over and apparently hit a tree.
The accident happened about 8 a.m. Friday morning while the three siblings were on the way to school.
"[Foster] was new here this year. She was a bright student. A hard worker, had a great future a head of here. It's a terrible lost to our community and our school," Amber Freeman, Principal of Bankhead Middle School, said of Foster
The two older siblings attended Cordova High school.
Freeman says counselors will be available Friday and Monday to help students.
"As students hear about this today we will allow them to come and speak to counselors. We have counselors on standby if they need them to come in today We do have some coming for Monday," Freeman said.
The principal asked the parents of students who were close friends with Foster to come to school, tell them about the her death and take them out of school for the day.
The exact cause of the fatal wreck remains under investigation. State troopers say this is another tragic reminder for young drivers to be careful when behind the wheel.
