MONTPELIER, VT : Suspect trapped in minivan crash on Saturday, 20th August, 2016
This weekend, a high-speed crash involving a stolen vehicle occurred in a residential area of Montpelier. According to a statement issued by the Montpelier Police Department, a minivan crashed into a tree on College Street at 5:34 a.m. Saturday. According to police, the minivan was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed when the operator lost control of the vehicle. The driver was unconscious upon arrival. He was trapped in the vehicle, and Montpelier Fire Department personnel used the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the operator from the vehicle. The operator was identified as James Dopp Jr., 18, of Montpelier. Dopp was transported to the Central Vermont Medical Center and later transferred to Fletcher Allen in Burlington, according to police. The 1995 Toyota PRV minivan was allegedly stolen from a residence in Montpelier. Dopp was believed to be involved with several thefts from area motor vehicles and an attempted burglary. He will face criminal charges of operation of a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, attempted burglary and larceny from a motor vehicle.
