Douglasville, GA : New Manchester High School student dies in crash on Bomar Road early Friday morning, April 1, 2016

A New Manchester High School student was killed in an accident on Bomar Road early Friday morning.

Douglas County Coroner Randy Daniel said Jadaya T. Anthony, 18, of Douglasville, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 a.m. Friday.

The Georgia State Patrol said in a statement that Anthony was driving a 2007 Nissan Versa on Bomar Road at approximately 1:39 a.m. “at a speed too fast for conditions.”

Anthony lost control of her vehicle in a curve, left the roadway, struck the support cable of a telephone pole with the front bumper, rotated clockwise and struck a pine tree on the driver’s side, according to the Georgia State Patrol report.

Daniel said Anthony was only about a half mile from her house. He said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Anthony was a senior at New Manchester where she played on the varsity volleyball team. Many of her classmates were mourning the sudden loss of a friend on social media Friday.

New Manchester Principal Connie Craft said in a statement on the school's website addressed to parents that she was saddened to learn of Anthony's death.

"The death of any young person is a loss that affects each of us in one way or another," Craft wrote. "Condolences go out to her family and friends as well as our school family and community. We have asked the assistance of our crisis team to help our school community deal with this loss. We are providing support to students and staff to help them cope. We suggest that you discuss this matter with your son or daughter and respond to any questions that arise."
