Camden,SC : Pursuit of stolen vehicle in 2 counties ends in crash in downtown Camden on September, Sunday 3rd 2017
A man out on bond for failure to stop for blue lights has been arrested following a pursuit with deputies in Kershaw County Sunday.
According to Kershaw County Sheriff's James Matthews, the pursuit started in Kershaw County when a deputy on eastbound Interstate 20 noticed a speeding vehicle coming up behind the patrol car. The chase entered Lee County on Jamestown Road, then went back into Kershaw County on Interstate 20 westbound. The deputy pulled out of the pursuit when the speed became too dangerous. Deputies say they attempted to use stop sticks to puncture the vehicle's tires and stop the pursuit.
The vehicle stopped when it crashed into another vehicle at Broad and Dekalb Streets in downtown Camden.
Matthews says the pursuit reached speeds as high as 130 miles per hour on eastbound I-20.
A deputy tells WIS the civilians in the vehicle that was hit were not seriously injured.
One person was arrested. Deputies say two other men ran from the crash scene. Deputies attempted a bloodhound track for the men but there were too many people in the area for the K-9 to pick up a track.
The names and descriptions of the men deputies are looking for have not been released.
The name of the person under arrest has not been released but he is being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center. Matthews says he was out on bond for failure to stop for blue lights in another county.
All three men were wearing backpacks when they attempted to run away. Matthews says officers found ammunition, whiskey bottles and cell phones in the vehicle.
The vehicle was reported stolen out of Columbia.
