Polk County, FL : Deputies: Polk County teen driver leaves scene of crash with injured passenger on May 17th 2014
A Polk County teenager was arrested for allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash.
Deputies said just before 9 p.m. Saturday, 18-year-old Michael Williamson was charged with leaving the scene after his car flipped onto its roof at the edge of a citrus grove near Almburg Road.
Witnesses told deputies they saw him attempt to pull the passenger from the car and then leave the area.
The passenger, William Ober III, was severely injured and was taken to the hospital.
Investigators said Williamson was driving too fast as he headed south on Lake Mabel Loop Road at Alburg Road, failed to negotiate a curve, and steered off the roadway.
They said Williamson steered back onto the road, then overcorrected, causing the truck to rotate, strike a utility pole and flip on its roof.
Deputies later found Williamson at his home and brought him to Heart of Florida Hospital, where he was treated for injuries before his arrest.
