Boston, MA : Toddler injured after SUV crashes into Billerica day care on Thursday afternoon, April 28, 2016

A toddler was injured when an SUV veered off the road and crashed into a Billerica day care facility Thursday afternoon, police said.

Just before 5:30 p.m., police received a report that a Subaru Outback had crashed into A Brighter Rainbow Learning Center on Boston Road. The SUV struck a boy under the age of 2 and pinned him beneath the vehicle, according to police.

Police said the Subaru’s driver, a 38-year-old Billerica woman, lost control of the car when she had a medical issue, causing her to hit multiple cars along the shoulder before driving over the curb, through a fence, and into the side of the day care, stopping in the main childcare area. Four children were inside at the time of the crash and three others were playing outside, according to police.

The young boy was found under the car, conscious and alert. He was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, and two other children were treated at the scene, police said.

The car’s driver was also taken to Lahey with injuries that weren’t considered to be life-threatening.
