A 68-year-old man in a wheelchair was hit by a car and killed today at a north Las Vegas Valley bus stop, according to Metro Police.
The incident was reported about 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Rancho Drive and Lake Mead Boulevard, Officer Jesse Roybal said.
The Las Vegas man, who will be identified by the Clark County coroner's office, was taken to University Medical Center, where he died, police said.
A 27-year-old Las Vegas woman was driving a 2008 Hyundai Accent east on Lake Mead when she hit the median, deflating the tires on the left side, police said. The car veered across the opposing lanes, missing other vehicles but crashing into the bus stop, police said.
Lake Mead was shut down in both directions between Rancho and Valley Drive, Roybal said. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police, he said.
