Memphis, TN : Southbound lanes of Interstate 55 bridge shut down for several hours on Wednesday morning June 18th 2014

Traffic on the Interstate 55 bridge coming into Tennessee is blocked, due to a fiery 18-wheeler crash that happened just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday.

Our WMC Action News 5 crews sent in photos from the scene that shows the charred shell of the tractor-trailer.

Investigators say an SUV was stalled on the bridge. The driver of the 18-wheeler tried to swerve to avoid hitting it and instead hit a retaining wall.

The tractor-trailer driver is expected to be okay. The condition for the driver of the SUV is not available.

As of noon, the southbound lanes were still closed. Southbound traffic is being diverted to alternate routes.
