Southaven, MS : Driver charged as deputy hurt in collision in Southaven on Wednesday, April 20, 2016
Charges have been issued against a driver involved in an accident Wednesday in Southaven that injured a DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department deputy.
Southaven Police Chief Steve Pirtle said the accident took place at the intersection of Greenbrook Parkway and Rasco Road about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Pirtle said the collision involved a Sheriff’s Department patrol car and a 2001 Lincoln town car. Witnesses reported the Lincoln town car ran a red light and struck the patrol car in the side.
The driver of the patrol car was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven, where he was treated and released. The driver of the other vehicle was charged with driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance and running a red stop light.
He was taken to DeSoto County Jail after he was not able to post a $1,550 bond.
No further details were available, Pirtle said, as the accident report had not yet been submitted into the department’s records system.
