Decatur, AL : Decatur teen dies in motorcycle wreck on Saturday, March 4th 2017
A 17-year-old Decatur High School senior died Saturday morning from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.
Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn said Adam Carle, of Decatur, was pronounced dead at 9:46 a.m. at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Chunn said it appears Carle went into cardiac arrest resulting from blunt force trauma suffered in the accident.
Ryan Welty, Morgan County 911 director, said his office received a call at 8:52 a.m. Saturday and dispatched Decatur Police, Decatur Fire and Rescue, First Response Ambulance and a medical helicopter to the parking lot of the Point Mallard Aquatic Center, the site of the wreck.
In a statement, Decatur police said it was a single motorcycle accident, and Carle had suffered life-threatening injuries. Police said it appeared the motorcycle was traveling in the aquatic center parking lot when the rider lost control. The motorcycle flipped, throwing the rider off, the statement said. It was unknown if Carle was wearing a motorcycle helmet.
“It’s just unbelievable. … Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam’s family,” Decatur High Principal Johnny Berry said Saturday afternoon. “It is always tragic to lose a young person. It is a sad day for the school and a sad day for the community.”
Berry said counselors will be available at the school Monday to help students and staff cope with Carle’s death.
Police said an investigation is ongoing.
