Athens, GA : Police release name of elderly Oconee County man killed in Athens crash on Tuesday, 8th November 2016
The person who was killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on West Broad Street was said by Athens-Clarke County police to be an 85-year-old resident of Oconee County.
Joe Phillips reportedly caused the fatal crash by failing to yield when making a left turn from West Broad Street at King Avenue, into the path of a pickup truck, according to police.
Phillips was thrown from his SUV upon impact, suffering fatal injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured, according to police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez, who added that “impairment is not considered a factor in this crash.”
