Fruit Cove, FL : JSO Corrections Officer died in SJC motorcycle crash in Fruit Cove on Tuesday, January 27, 2015

A Jacksonville Corrections Officer has died in a motorcycle crash in Fruit Cove.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 22-year-old Roger Highcove Junior was driving north on State Road 13 behind a string of cars. Troopers say Highcove drove in to the southbound travel lane in order to pass several cars.
As Highcove was traveling in the opposing travel lane, FHP says Patricia Thornton started turning her car from SR 13 on to Friendship Drive. The car and motorcycle collided, and Highcove was pronounced dead at the hospital. Thornton suffered minor injuries and was not transported.
JSO issued a statement saying “Sheriff John Rutherford and the entire JSO family wish to express our deepest condolences to the Highcove family, Roger’s many friends, and we hold them in our prayers.” Highcove joined JSO in May 2014.
FHP says charges are pending further investigation.
