Terre Haute, IN : 7-year-old hurt in bike-van crash on April, Sunday 23rd 2017
Indiana State Police say a 7-year-old suffered a broken leg and possible other injuries Sunday in a car-bicycle accident on Farrington Street near 18th Street.
Police say the brakes on the boy’s bike may have failed as he was riding in an alley around 3 p.m., causing him to go into the path of a minivan.
The child was thrown from the bike before the van ran over the bike.
The child was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital but a State Police news release said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police note the boy was not wearing a helmet but he is not required to under Indiana law.
No citations were issued. Police say the driver of the van appeared to not have had time to brake for the bicycle.
