Shepherdstown, West Virginia
man died at Meritus Medical Center after the car he was driving collided with a tractor-trailer and crashed Tuesday morning on Interstate 70 east of Hagerstown, Maryland State police said.
Robbie Brook Reid, 52, was driving west on the interstate in a Honda Accord shortly after 8:30 a.m., when the vehicle tried to overtake a tractor-trailer and, for an unknown reason, struck the rear of the truck, according to a news release from state police.
Troopers said the Honda then traveled across the left lane, struck an embankment in the median and overturned near the 37-mile marker on South Mountain.
Reid was partially thrown from the vehicle and had to be freed by Washington County Fire and Rescue.
Police said he was transported to Meritus Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, which appeared to be hauling Pepsi-Cola, was not injured.
One lane of the interstate was closed to traffic for about three hours while police investigated the crash and a tow truck removed the Honda from the roadway.
The Honda sustained front- and rear-end damage.
