BROCKTON, MA : Car knocks over sign, crashes into tree near Brockton school on Tuesday, 24th July 2018

A car knocked over a street sign and struck a tree outside a city school Tuesday evening.

Police were called to the Davis School on Plain Street at 5:36 p.m. after a white Kia Sonata appeared to take an out-of-control left turn while exiting the school.

The vehicle drove over a “Do Not Enter” sign, then continued head-on into a large tree. Both of the car doors were open, and those at the scene said it appeared the driver fled the accident.

The Davis School, which serves K-8 students, is located at 380 Plain St. on Brockton’s south side.

Police said the single-car accident remains under investigation.
