Marco Island,FL : Wrong-way crash on Alligator Alley seriously injures man on February, Saturday 17th 2018

A wrong-way driver suffered serious injuries Saturday morning on Alligator Alley in Collier County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Carlos Morales, 48, was driving east in the outside lane for westbound traffic on the cross-state stretch of Interstate 75 near Big Cypress National Preserve shortly after 3 a.m., the report states.

Another driver, traveling west, swerved onto a paved shoulder to avoid the 1999 Toyota Camry that Morales was driving, and the Camry hit the end of a guardrail, the report states.

Morales was taken to NCH Baker Hospital Downtown.

FHP stated results are pending on whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The outside lane for westbound traffic was blocked for an hour, the report states.
