HESPERIA, CA : A 51-year-old man dead on Sunday, July 23, 2017
Officials are investigating a motorcycle crash here that left a 51-year-old man dead Sunday.
California Highway Patrol officials said Jim Leroy Johnson, of Hesperia, was killed in a crash on Rock Springs Road early that day. He was found by a passerby at 6:20 a.m. Sunday and pronounced deceased minutes later, officials said.
The exact time of the crash is still unknown, but officials determined Johnson was headed east on Rock Springs Road in a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, he allowed the motorcycle to travel across the westbound lane into the desert.
The motorcycle collided into a dirt and rock debris pile, sending both the motorcycle and Johnson airborne, officials said.
Johnson and the motorcycle both came to rest in an open desert area north of Rock Springs Road, where he was later found. Further details weren’t available Monday.
The crash remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol Victorville office at 760-241-1186.
