Archer, ID : Couple injured after East Idaho crash on Thursday, November 10, 2016

A pickup truck rear-ended a PSI garbage truck on the Archer Highway around noon on Thursday. Rexburg ambulance crews transported the truck's occupants to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC).

Madison County Paramedic Troyce Miskin reported the couple was in their 20s.

“We did transfer them to EIRMC in stable condition,” he said.

The couple is expected to recover.

According to Madison County Sheriff's Captain Cameron Stanford, a man and a woman were headed south on the highway when the pickup they were traveling in hit the garbage truck from behind. The collision caused the truck to careen across the highway, hit a barbed wire fence and land on the side of the road.

“We had a pickup truck that was driving south on the Archer Highway and a garbage truck also south on the Archer Highway picking up garbage along the side of the road,” he said. “Initial investigation is showing the pickup truck rear-ended the garbage truck.”

No one in the garbage truck was injured. The garbage truck received minimal damage, while it appears that the pickup truck was totaled.

Stanford didn't know how fast the pickup was going or the status of the two people taken to EIRMC.

The incident remains under investigation.
